New musical talent comes and goes without acknowledgement in this crazy click and play world. For my first article of 2016, I want to highlight my standout artist/track of 2015. So here's a man who should need no introduction, but deserves one!
I randomly stumbled across a video for JMSN (pronounced Jameson) via an IG post (thank you @ryanplett) and was immediately taken in by this Jesusesque, shuffling funk monster AKA Christian Berishaj".
"Soulful vocals with a lush string backing and amazing beats production for "Bout It" made me dig a bit deeper online. Releasing his first self played, self produced album (think of a noughties Prince) as "Love Arcade" in 2006, then as Christian TV in 2010, finally setting up his own label, White Room Records, and releasing his debut album as JMSN (Priscilla) in 2012. Fast forward to December 2014 and "The Blue Album" is released, featuring hip hop/funk jams and melancholy moments of pure gorgeous soul."
"He's obviously got a great sense of humour (check out his Boogie Basics Dance Tutorial on YouTube) and a vision of exactly how he wants his music to sound and look".
"He's currently touring The Blue Album if you're lucky enough to catch him, but if not, there's a Boiler Room live set from London online and a compilation of videos/performances put together in his own inimitable style". The Blue Album is available now from iTunes.
